Recovery Support
-
For individuals who are seeking recovery from Binge Eating or Alcohol Use Issues
-
Assessment for the appropriate level of care for your needs: If you are actively using substances, have physical dependence on alcohol/any other substance, or have an active eating disorder with potential life threatening issues, I will provide referral options for other services. *Please note, I do not work with anyone who needs a higher level of care until you are physically stable.
-
I use a variety of modalities to help you create a plan of recovery that is focused on relapse prevention, bouncing back from relapse, addressing the root causes of addiction and BED, shadow work to process intense feelings of shame, and strategies to help you get out of isolation (where we so often live when we are struggling with any type of addiction) and back into your life.
-
I support those who are seeking to have a better relationship with food and their bodies. I am well versed in Intuitive Eating and am a body positive therapist. I also understand that there is a lack of space for individuals who are struggling with health issues as a result of binge eating and who wish for recovery and weight loss simultaneously. While I am anti-diet, I support health-focused behaviors and peeling back the layers of trauma to heal from BED.
Grief Counseling
-
Support for any type of loss in your life
-
Creating a safe, calming space for you to share your experiences - whether you have recently lost a beloved or are anticipating the death of someone you love, or even if you experienced a loss that was several years ago - talking about your grief can be a balm.
-
Grief comes in many forms and in many seasons of our lives and is not just related to death. Some common reasons why someone may seek out grief counseling: Infertility and the longing for a child, loss of health, loss of sexual vitality, loss of a relationship, your children growing up and feeling sadness about that, loss of a job
-
Ultimately, I believe a gateway to soothing our hearts (although they are forever changed by loss) is through spiritual (not necessarily religious, unless you want it to be) exploration and making peace with mortality in whatever way we can fathom.
Relationship Revival
-
I do offer couples sessions on a case by case basis. I prefer to work with couples who are highly motivated to understand their partner(s).
-
I work with couples of all dynamics with no judgement.
-
Couples sessions have the potential to provide emotional and intimate reconnection. I utilize a variety of modalities to help couples feel that there is progress with each session. I encourage completion of the homework I provide and consistent effort between sessions.
-
Some of the couples issues I work with include: Sex and Intimacy concerns, Infidelity, Impact of Addiction on the relationship, Trust & Attachment issues, separation and divorce. *Please note, I do not work with individuals or couples where there is active domestic violence and will assist you with a referral and any necessary resources for your safety and well-being.
Support through Major Life Transitions
-
Going through a divorce or separation, becoming an empty nester, retirement, starting cancer treatments, starting college, the loss of a loved one, coming out for the first time - all of these are potential reasons to seek the support of a therapist.
-
I love to help people through these moments in life and generally start by making sure your foundation is steady first. We will explore how well you are taking care of yourself, what tools you generally use to cope (and how healthy or unhealthy those might be) and who your support system is. From there, we will begin to make plans for building your "life raft" to carry you through.
Confidentiality
Important Information about Confidentiality:
-
I am a mandated reporter. If you disclose any information to me about child abuse, abuse of an elderly person or abuse of a person who has a disability, I am legally and ethically bound to make the necessary phone call to report that. I do not need your consent to make this call.

-
If you disclose in session that you have an active plan to harm yourself or someone else, I will need to assess the situation and connect you with crisis services via 911, having your emergency contact drive you to the emergency room or by having mobile crisis transport you to a safe place

-
Unless you are an established client, please know that I cannot provide documentation for an attorney, disability case or any other request after one visit. You must be established (meaning, we have a therapeutic relationship that I can provide honest feedback on). If your intention for seeking counseling is based on a need for specific documentation, I will refer you to an alternate provider.
